2017-6-1 · Tieback bolting is usually used to reinforce rock pillars. With tieback bolting, the bolts, usually equally spaced, go through the entire width of the pillar and are pre-tensioned with a relatively high load (see Fig. 22). It should be noted that the purpose of tieback bolting is not to enhance the peak strength of the pillar to avoid failure but to prevent the pillar from disintegration in the post-failure stage.
